A bus carrying pilgrims fell into a gorge after a suspected terror attack in Reasi resulting in the death of nine people and injuries to 33 others on Sunday evening.

Reports said the driver of the bus lost control after being injured when suspected terrorists opened fire at the Kanda area of Teryath and plunged into a gorge.

The bus was going to Shiv Khori from Katra near the base camo of Mata Vaishno Devi. Some of the injured passengers also suffered bullet wounds. A search operation was quickly launched. Senior police and civil administration also rushed to the spot.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi told reporters at the site of the incident that nine people were killed after the bus fell into a gorge following a terrorist attack.

“This is an unfortunate incident in which nine persons are feared dead and 33 others injured,’’ she said. “Prima facie it seems the terrorists were waiting for the bus and attacked it on the highway. The driver of the bus was hit by a bullet after which the bus rolled down into the gorge.”
