Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is likely to attend the oath taking ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday evening.

Quoting sources, ANI reported that Kharge has accepted the invite after a discussion with his party and allies. Kharge is the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha.

According to reports, the invitation to Kharge was extended by BJP leader Pralhad Joshi last night.

Meanwhile, Deputy Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari said he had not received an invitation for the searing-in. "I am the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha. I haven't received any invitation for the swearing-in ceremony of PM-designate Narendra Modi nor have the INDIA alliance partners. To turn the ceremony into an international event, Narendra Modi is more interested in inviting foreign guests," Tiwari said.

Modi is set to take oath on Sunday for a third straight term as the head of a coalition government after two full tenures in which the BJP enjoyed a majority on its own.

The 73-year-old will be equalling the feat of first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who won in 1952, 1957 and 1962 general elections.

Leaders from India's neighbourhood and the Indian Ocean Region are among the dignitaries and special invitees expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the prime minister and his council of ministers at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 7.15 pm.
