Prajwal Revanna case: Bengaluru court extends Revanna’s judicial custody till June 24

The Karnataka HC granted anticipatory bail for Revanna's mother today

A special court in Karnataka extended judicial custody of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna till June 24 in the controversial rape and sexual abuse case.

The 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court had on June 12 remanded him to the custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the cases against him, till June 18.

The 33-year-old had failed in his bid to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency in the recent polls.

Revanna, who was at large soon after voting in Hassan during the Lok Sabha polls, was arrested by SIT officials soon after he landed at Bengaluru airport from Germany on May 31. A 'Blue Corner Notice' seeking information on his whereabouts had earlier been issued by Interpol, following a request by the SIT via the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Revanna was accused of sexually harassing a 47-year-old former maid. He has been booked in three cases of sexual assault. There are also charges of rape against him. According to police, there are over 2,000 explicit videos of Revanna sexually assaulting women.

The cases of sexual abuse came to light after pen drives containing the alleged explicit videos were reportedly circulated in Hassan, ahead of Lok Sabha polls there on April 26. JD(S) suspended him from the party after cases were filed against him.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to Revanna’s mother Bhavani Revanna in a kidnapping case registered in connection with a sexual assault case. Bhavani Revanna is allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a woman to stop her from filing a case of sexual assault against Prajwal Revanna.
