Hoax bomb threats: Mumbai-bound IndiGo flight lands safely; BMC buildings, hospitals searched

Airports in Chennai, Patna, Jaipur and several other cities also got threat emails

A Mumbai-bound IndiGo flight from Chennai and more than 60 establishments in Mumbai, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), hospitals and colleges received bomb threats on Tuesday.

The flight has landed safely at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai at 10.30 pm after the threat message was received at IndiGo's call centre in New Delhi. All 196 passengers and seven crew members aboard the flight, 6E 5149, have disembarked safely, the airline stated.

"IndiGo flight 6E 5149, operating from Chennai to Mumbai, had received a bomb threat. Upon landing in Mumbai, the crew followed protocol and the aircraft was taken to an isolation bay," the airline said in a statement.

"We are working with security agencies and post completion of all security checks, the aircraft will be positioned back in the terminal area," it added.

On Tuesday, other airports, including Chennai, Patna, Jaipur, Nagpur, Varanasi, Vadodara, Coimbatore and Jabalpur also received bomb threat emails and all of them were found to be hoax threats after searches were carried out.

However, in Mumbai, the airport was not the only one to receive threats on Tuesday. Searches were carried out in hospitals, colleges and government establishments are bomb threats were sent from a single mail id.

"The emails received on Tuesday were similar to those received on Monday, which said that there was a bomb threat to prominent private, state and civic-run hospitals and colleges across the city," a police official told news agency PTI, adding that an investigation was underway.
