Amid allegations of irregularities in the NEET exam, the four men who were arrested by the Bihar Police's Economic Offences Unit last week,  have confessed to getting the question paper a day before the exams.

The arrested include Anurag Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Amit Anand and Sikandar Yadavendu, a junior engineer at Danapur municipal council.

Yadav, a 22-year-old aspirant, told the investigating officials that he received the question paper a day before the exam and was told to memorise it. He said the exact questions were asked in the exams the next day, said reports.

He is the nephew of the Yadavendu, who is currently employed at Bihar's Danapur Town Council (Danapur Nagar Parishad). According to Yadav, he was told by his relative Sikandar Prasad Yadavendu that all arrangements for the exam had been made. He gave the question paper to two others as well.

Yadav added that he was made to read and memorise it at night. "When I went to take the exam, I found the same questions in the exam which I had memorized correctly. After the exam, the police came and caught me, and I confessed my crime," he said.

Meanwhile, Yadavendu told the police that the two other accused, Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand, told him they could leak the question paper of any competitive exam and it would cost ₹ 30-32 lakh for each aspirant to clear NEET.

The accused said he arranged four boys who needed help in passing the examination and took them on June 4 night to Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand. They handed over the question paper. Yadavendu said he asked for Rs 40 lakh from each student instead of Rs 30 lakh "out of greed."

Yadavendu was caught with the admit cards of the students during a vehicle check the next day.

Meanwhile, the Centre has asked for a report from the Bihar Police's Economic Offences Unit regarding alleged irregularities in the conduct of the NEET in Patna.

"Regarding certain irregularities alleged in the conduct of the examination in Patna, a detailed report has been sought from the Economic Offences Unit, Bihar Police. The government will take further action on receipt of this report," a senior official of the ministry told PTI. He also warned of strict action against those involved in the crime.
