As protests mount over the alleged irregularities in the NEET and UGC-NET examinations, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said a high-level committee will be formed to investigate the lapses.

Asserting that the government is committed to safeguarding the interest of the students, Pradhan said that the errors in NEET examination were limited to specific regions.

“I want to assure everyone that the government is committed to protecting the interests of students. We will not compromise on transparency,” the minister said, addressing a press conference in Delhi on Thursday.

Pradhan assured that strict action would be taken against any officials of the National Testing Agency if they wore found guilty.

“In the context of the NEET exam, we are in touch with Bihar government. We are receiving some information from Patna. Police Police are investigating and a detailed report will be submitted by them. Following credible information, strict action will be taken against the guilty," he said.

He urged the opposition parties to not politicise the NEET issue and said isolated incidents shouldn't affect lakhs of students who cleared the exam rightfully.

The minister further clarified that the UGC-NET exam was cancelled after it was found that the question paper has been leaked on Darknet.

“Let us have faith in our systems; no irregularities or malpractices will be tolerated by the government,” he said.

The education ministry announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam on Wednesday evening—just a day after it was held across the nation—following prima facie indications that the integrity of exam was compromised.

Meanwhile, the opposition parties have launched an all-out attack on the government, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleging that the main reason for paper leaks is that educational institutions have been captured by the BJP and its parent organisation RSS.
