PM Modi in Jammu and Kashmir for 2-day visit; to launch projects worth Rs 1500 crore

The PM will also lead the International Day of Yoga fete in Srinagar tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is arriving in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday for a two-day visit to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 84 developmental projects valued at more than Rs. 1,500 crore. This is his first visit to the Union Territory after winning a third term at the Centre.

One of the key projects he will launch is the Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture and Allied Sectors (JKCIP) Project worth Rs. 1,800 crore.

On the first day of his visit, the Prime Minister will participate in the  'Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K' event at the Sher-i-Kashmir  International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar located on the banks of Dal Lake. This event is pivotal for the region, showcasing progress and inspiring young achievers. During the event, he will inspect stalls and interact with young achievers of J&K.

On the second day, he will lead the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations at SKICC in Srinagar. This year's theme is 'Yoga for Self and Society', underscoring Yoga's profound impact on individual and societal well-being. 

More than 7,000 people from different walks of life will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day. 

Since 2015, Prime Minister Modi has led International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations at various iconic locations, including Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru, and the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple developmental projects in J&K, including road infrastructure, water supply schemes, and higher education infrastructure. These include improvement of the Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri section, development of industrial estates, and the construction of six government degree colleges. He will distribute appointment letters to more than 2,000 newly-appointed government employees.

The JKCIP Project, worth Rs. 1,800 crores, will be implemented in 90 blocks across 20 districts of J&K, reaching 300,000 households and benefiting 1.5 million people. These initiatives aim to empower the youth and upgrade the infrastructure in Jammu and  Kashmir, fostering progress and development in the region.
