JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna, brother of Prajwal Revanna, has been arrested after being charged with the sexual assault of a party worker. The grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, Suraj was charged on Saturday for allegedly sodomising a party worker a few days ago at his farmhouse.
A case was registered against Suraj under IPC sections 377 (unnatural sex) and 506 (criminal intimidation) after a 27-year-old man, identified as Chethan K S, approached police alleging that Suraj sodomised him at his farmhouse in Ghannikada in Holenarasipura Taluk on June 16 evening. According to the complainant, Suraj invited him to his farmhouse. When he arrived, the MLC forced himself on Chethan, the complaint read.
After the sexual assault, the victim alleged that Suraj promised to help him grow politically in the district. When he texted the MLC about the incident, Suraj told him not to worry and things would be fine.
The police took him into custody after summoning him to the Cyber Economic and Narcotics Crime (CEN) police station in Hassan. He was detained after a prima facie inquiry against him.
However, Suraj claimed he was innocent and Chethan had filed a false complaint to extort Rs 5 crore from him. Suraj's aide Shivakumar also filed a complaint against the victim with the police alleging extortion.
Shivakumar has alleged that Chethan was trying to extort money from Suraj Revanna by threatening to lodge a false case of sexual assault against him. It has been alleged that Chethan demanded Rs 5 crore from Suraj Revanna and later it was reduced to Rs 2 crore.
Shivakumar alleged that Chethan befriended him before starting to work for the 'Suraj Revanna Brigade'. However, Chethan soon requested money from Shivakumar to cover family expenses, but his demand was rejected. He then demanded a job following which Shivakumar provided him with Suraj's number. But, when his job request was turned down, Chethan began blackmailing the JD(S) leader.
Suraj Revanna is the son of Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna and the elder brother of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna who is in judicial custody for allegedly sexually assaulting several women. Their father H D Revanna and mother Bhavani are out on bail. They have been accused of kidnapping and keeping an alleged victim of their son Prajwal's sexual assaults.
