Two jawans of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a warfare unit of the Central Reserve Police Force, were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast attack in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Sunday.
According to the police, the Naxalites attacked the CoBRA truck at around 3 pm near Timmapuram village between Silger and Tekalgudem camps of security forces. The camps are over 400 km from Raipur.
“The personnel of 201 CoBRA battalion were moving on a motorcycle and a truck when the blast took place. A jawan who was driving the truck and one another jawan (assistant driver) were killed in the blast”, read the statement issued by Bastar police.
The deceased were identified as constable Shailendra (29) and vehicle driver Vishnu R. (35).
A senior police official said that an advance party of the 201st unit of CoBRA had launched patrolling from Silger camp under Jagargunda police station limits as a part of its Road Opening Party duty towards Tekalgudem.
After being alerted about the blast, more forces were rushed to the spot and the bodies were being evacuated from the forest, he said.
A search operation is underway in the area, he added.
