The Bombay High Court granted bail to the 17-year-old juvenile involved in the controversial Porsche crash case in which two IT professionals got killed. The juvenile will be in the custody of his juvenile aunt.

Hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by the paternal aunt of the juvenile, the High Court directed the immediate release of the minor from the observation home and he will be in the care and custody of his aunt.  A bench of justices Bharati Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande observed that the Juvenile Justice Board’s order remanding the minor was illegal and without jurisdiction, Live Law reported.

Two techies were killed in the early hours of May 19 when a Porsche car hit them. A 17-year-old juvenile, who drove the car was taken into custody over the incident. The accident case was registered at the Yerwada police station following the car crash in the Kalyani Nagar area of the city.

Though the minor boy was earlier granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board which asked him to write an essay on road accidents, he was later sent to an observation home till June 5 amid outrage over the lenient treatment and a review application by the police.

The minor’s parents and grandfather have also been arrested by police for tampering with evidence in the case and for trying to get the minor off the hook by making their driver accept blame for the accident.
