Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was on Wednesday arrested by the CBI in the excise policy case. Kejriwal was produced before a trial court by the Tihar Jail authorities before the arrest was formally made.

The CBI had sought permission from special judge Amitabh Rawat, where the CBI sought his custody to interrogate him. The AAP leader was interrogated by the agency inside Tihar Jail on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court allowed Kejriwal to file a fresh petition after his legal team withdrew the plea challenging the June 21 order passed by the Delhi High Court, staying the trial court's order granting him bail.

Kejriwal's lawyer and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi informed the Court that the Delhi High Court passed the final order on the ED's stay application. In this context, Singhvi said that the present petition is being withdrawn to file a fresh petition challenging both the June 25 and June 21 orders of the Delhi High Court.

Granting Kejriwal liberty to file a fresh petition, a vacation bench of Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti dismissed the present petition as withdrawn, reported Live Law.

The AAP has protested the CBI's questioning. The party's legal team posted on X. The "dirty tricks of the Modi government fears the release of Arvind Kejriwal by SC has asked to CBI to make an arrest in the same matter almost a year after he joined the investigation. What it shows is that nothing changed the vindictive mindset of BJ. Shame."
