Weather news June 29, 30: From Madhya Pradesh to New Delhi, 5 north Indian states to receive rainfall this weekend

Heavy rains in Gurugram early Friday morning led to severe inundation, particularly in residential areas, and traffic jams across the city. The Delhi-Gurugram Expressway was also affected after rains lashed the city on Thursday night and Friday morning. 

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man was electrocuted while on his way to work Friday morning, after coming in contact with electricity conducted through a waterlogged road during heavy rains in the national capital. 

The ceiling of a library in Delhi University's north campus started leaking after heavy rains lashed the national capital early Friday, forcing students to move out of the reading room. In a video that surfaced online, water was seen to be dripping from the ceiling of the Faculty of Arts library, and a portion of the reading room was filled with water.

Elsewhere, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh were among the states to witness rainfall today. Here are five north Indian states that can expect rainfall this weekend.

1. Rajasthan: According to IMD, good rain is expected in Rajasthan for the next 10 days. The MeT center has predicted heavy rain in some parts of eastern Rajasthan from June 29 to July 2. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at some places in Bharatpur and Jaipur divisions. 

2. Himachal Pradesh: MeT department issued an 'orange warning' indicating "very heavy rain", thunderstorms, and lightning at isolated places in seven of the 12 districts in Himachal Pradesh over the weekend. It issued an orange warning for the Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur and Solan districts on Saturday and Sunday.

The MeT also issued a 'yellow warning' of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning at isolated places on Monday and Tuesday and predicted a wet spell in the state till next Thursday. 

3. Jharkhand: The weather department predicted widespread rainfall with the possibility of one or two spells of heavy rains in a few pockets of the state on June 29 and 30 under the influence of low pressure. A cyclonic circle has formed in the Bay of Bengal and its effect is also expected to be seen over Dhanbad. With the onset of rain from Saturday, the temperature is likely to fall by two to three degrees, reports said. 

4. New Delhi: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in the national capital on the weekend, the India Meteorological Department said. The Regional Meteorological Department Delhi, has issued an orange alert for June 29 and 30. Thus, the weather department has predicted localized flooding of roads, water logging in low-lying areas and closure of underpasses due to very heavy rainfall in Delhi on June 29 and 30.

5. Madhya Pradesh: The cyclonic circulation over the Northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to merge with the pre-existing circulation over parts of Rajasthan and North Madhya Pradesh. The confluence of two streams will lead to heavy rainfall over northern parts of Madhya Pradesh on June 29. Subsequently, the intensity and spread of rainfall will increase on June 30 and expand to cover North and Central parts of Madhya Pradesh.
