A Delhi court on Saturday sent Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to 14-day judicial custody in a corruption case linked to the alleged excise policy scam.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader was produced before the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on expiry of his three-day custody period with the Central Bureau of Investigation which is probing the case.

The central agency sought 14 days jail for Kejriwal, saying his incarceration was required "in the interest of the investigation and justice". Allowing the plea, Special Judge Sunena Sharma said that the chief minister shall be produced in the court on July 12.

The CBI arrested Kejriwal on Wednesday, a day after he was interrogated in Tihar jail where he had been lodged in a money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate.

He was later remanded to three-day CBI custody by the court.

In its remand application on Saturday, the CBI said during the custodial interrogation, Kejriwal did not cooperate with the investigation and deliberately gave evasive replies contrary to the evidence on record.

"On being confronted with the evidence, he did not give a proper and truthful explanation regarding the enhancement of the profit margin for wholesalers from 5% to 12% under the new excise policy of Delhi 2021-22, without any study or justification," it said.
