West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee urged that judiciary must be pure, honest and there should not be any political bias. Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud was also present.

Addressing a conference on contemporary judicial developments in Kolkata, Banerjee said, “All those in the judiciary are an asset to the country and the world. It is not my intention to humiliate anyone but my kind submission, please see that there is no political bias in the judiciary.” The chief minister added it must be pure, honest, sacred and people should worship it.

Banerjee’s comments come after a former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay resigned to contest Lok Sabha polls. He contested the polls as a BJP candidate and won from the Tamluk constituency. During his tenure, he had come down heavily against the state government.
