Even as a few MLAs from Manipur BJP and its allies are camping in Delhi and amid rumours of a possible leadership change in the state, Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh ruled out the possibility of his resignation.

According to media reports, a section of MLAs from the ruling BJP and its allies, National People's Party (NPP) and Naga People's Front (NPF) have been seeking the resignation of the chief minister.

There have also been speculations about Singh's possible resignation after he was left out of a security review meeting on the state convened by the Centre in Delhi earlier in June.

However, Biren Singh claimed there is no such move to oust him. “Almost 35 MLAs had met with me on Thursday and the decision was taken to seek an appointment for a meeting with the prime minister and home minister. That is all,” The Hindu quoted him as saying.

Singh said he will also head to Delhi soon for the meeting.

“The MLAs entrusted me with getting the appointment, but since the Parliament is on and things are so hectic, I thought why should I disturb? When the meeting happens, I will also go. But some people have gone ahead. This has nothing to do with a resignation,” NDTV quoted the chief minister as saying.

He also thanked the prime minister and the home minister for putting Manipur on their list of priorities for the first 100 days of the new NDA government.

A few days ago, Manipur BJP president A. Sharda Devi met Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and held an extensive discussion on the current situation in the ethnic strife-hit state.

"Met Hon'ble Home Minister, Mananiya Shri @AmitShah ji, for an extensive discussion on the current situation in Manipur. Conveyed the people's aspirations and urged immediate attention to bring permanent solution and tranquillity to the state, while appreciating the ongoing efforts," she posted on X.

"Additionally, highlighted the need for resettling IDPs (internally displaced persons) and providing maximum support for smooth rehabilitation," she added.#en as a few MLAs from Manipur BJP and its allies are camping in Delhi and amid rumours of a possible leadership change in the state, Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh ruled out the possibility of his resignation.
