Members of the Opposition staged a walk out from the Parliament on Monday after the Speaker denied permission to discuss the NEET issue adjourning house proceedings. BJP MP Anurag Thakur moved the motion of thanks on the President’s address in  Lok Sabha on Monday.

Earlier, addressing the House, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi said, "A message is disseminated to the country, from Parliament. We want to give a message to students that the NEET issue is important for the Parliament. So, to send this message we want the Parliament to discuss this,” ANI reported.

However, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said any issue can be taken for discussion only after discussion on motion of thanks. "Parliament proceedings are carried out based on some rules and traditions. I request the Opposition that any discussion should be done only after the Motion of thanks on President's address,” Singh said.

Following the denial of permission to discuss the issue, opposition members staged a walkout from the house. Earlier, on allegations that the Speaker turned off  Rahul Gandhi’s mic while addressing the House on Friday, Speaker Om Birla said he doesn’t have control over it. “Outside the House, some MPs level allegations that the Speaker switches off the mic. The control of the mic is not in the hands of the one who sits on the Chair,” Birla said.

Outside the parliament, opposition MPs protested against the Centre alleging misuse of central probe agencies against opposition leaders. The opposition’s protest comes following the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by CBI in the liquor policy case.
