The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest in the liquor policy case.

Hearing the plea, Justice Neena Bansal Krishnaof Delhi High Court directed the central agency to file a reply within seven days and any rejoinder within two days thereafter, Live Law reported. The Court will be next hearing the case on July 17.

The central agency arrested the Aam Aadmi Party leader on June 26 from Tihar jail in a corruption case registered in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam. The Court has remanded Kejriwal till July 12 in the case. The Delhi CM is already serving remand in a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the scam.

Though a trial court granted bail to Kejriwal in ED’s case, it was later stayed by the Delhi High Court observing the trial court did not look into all aspects of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act while granting bail.

The excise policy was scrapped in 2022 after the Delhi lieutenant governor ordered a CBI probe into alleged irregularities and corruption involving its formulation and execution.

According to the CBI and ED, irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy and undue favours extended to the licence holders. BRS leader K. Kavitha and former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia have also been arrested in connection with the case.
