NEET-UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admissions to MBBS, BDS and other related courses in government and private institutions. Nearly 24 lakh candidates had appeared for the test this year on May 5. The exams were held at 4,750 centres.

Raising irregularities a total of 67 students had scored a perfect 720, with six from a Haryana centre. It was alleged that the grace marks contributed to 67 students sharing the top rank.

Later, when the NTA announced the revised results on July 1, the number of candidates sharing the top rank in the NEET-UG reduced to 61.

While responding to the Motion of Thanks on the President's address in the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said strict action will be taken against the people responsible for the NEET irregularities.

“The President mentioned the paper leak in her speech. I expect the entire house to rise above politics and discuss the issue. Unfortunately, it’s being politicised, which is concerning for the country’s future," he said.
