The opposition MPs staged a walkout on Wednesday during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reply in Rajya Sabha, saying the Leader of the Opposition in the upper house was not allowed to speak.
While Modi was replying to the debate on the 'Motion of Thanks' on the President's address, Kharge tried to intervene. However, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar did not allow him to speak.
Following this, the Parliamentarians from the INDIA bloc took to sloganeering by shouting "LoP ko bolne do (let the Leader of Opposition speak) and later opted to walk out in protest.
Following the walkout, Modi said the opposition is running away, adding that "they are insulting the Upper House, the glorious tradition of the Upper House".
Claiming that the country is watching that those who spread lies do not have the strength to hear the truth, the PM said, "Those who do not have the courage to face truth, do not have courage to listen to the answers to questions that were raised in these discussions."
Dhankar alleged that the opposition challenged the Constitution and disregarded the oath they took by walking out. "Khargeji insulted oath of the office by staging walkout. They made a mockery of the Constitution. I hope they introspect," he added.
"I urged them the LoP was given adequate time to speak without any interruptions. Today, they did not leave the House behind, they have left behind dignity. Today, they did not show their back, they showed it to the Constitution of India," Dhankar alleged.
