Jharkhand Mukti Morcha executive president Hemant Soren,  who is out on bail in a money laundering case, took oath as the Jharkhand chief minister at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath and office of secrecy to Soren.

Earlier in the day, the JMM announced that Soren would take oath as the chief minister on July 7, following the governor's invitation to form government in the state. Later, the party-led coalition decided that Soren would take oath on Thursday.

Soren, along with a delegation of the JMM and its allies, met the governor at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday and staked claim to form government after his party colleague Champai Soren resigned as the chief minister.

Congress state unit president Rajesh Thakur, RJD minister Satyanand Bhokta and CPI(ML)-L MLA Vinod Singh were part of the delegation.

Kalpana Soren, the Gandey MLA and wife of Soren, was also part of the delegation.

Soren quit as the chief minister on January 31 shortly before his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the money laundering case. He walked out of jail on June 28 after the Jharkhand High Court granted him bail.
