Tamil Nadu BSP leader murder: CM Stalin directs police to expedite probe; 8 held

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin condoled the murder of Bahujan Samajwadi Party leader K. Armstrong in Chennai on Saturday and said he has directed the police to expedite the probe in the case. The BSP state president was hacked to death by motorcycle-borne gang during the late hours of Friday.

Condoling the death, Stalin tweeted he was deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of BSP leader Armstrong. “Police have arrested those involved in the murder overnight. I have directed police to expedite probe in the case,” Stalin tweeted.

The 52-year-old Armstrong, state chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was hacked to death by a six-member gang near his house here on Friday. The victim is a former councillor of Chennai Corporation.

Police have secured at least eight suspects in connection with the murder. According to police, 10 special teams have been formed under Asra Garg, Additional Police Commissioner (Chennai North) to probe the case.

"We have secured eight suspects so far. This is preliminary probe. So after some time, a clear and better picture will emerge with more facts and circumstances coming to light," he said. “There are some two to three suspicious motives, but the exact one would come to light only after the interrogation of the suspects,” he added.

Meanwhile, BSP cadres protested in various parts of Chennai condemning the murder of their state president. Party members staged a road roko in front of Rajiv Gandhi Medical College Hospital and a few other parts of Chennai demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the case.
