Bringing back the memories of the Pune Porsche accident row that rocked Maharashtra recently, a 45-year-old woman was killed in an accident involving the son of a prominent leader of Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction in Mumbai on Monday. Travelling on a two-wheeler with her husband, the victim was hit by a BMW car with the son of Sena-Shinde leader Rajesh Shah behind the wheels. The victim was identified as Kaveri, a fisherfolk, who was on her way home in Worli Koliwada from Sassoon Dock in Colaba with her husband.
The 24-year-old Mihir Shah, the accused, stopped formal education after Class 10 and reportedly joined his father's real estate and construction business. Mihir has been booked under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita, including 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash and negligent driving endangering human life) and 125-B (endangering life and personal safety), among others. According to police, the accused Mihir Shah is at large and they have already arrested his father and the driver of the car.
Here are five latest updates about the hit and run case involving the BMW of Mihir Shah:
1. Besides Mihir's father Rajesh Shah, the BMW's driver Rajrishi Bidawat, who was inside the car when the accident happened, was also picked up by the police.
2. The BMW was found abandoned in Kala Nagar in Mumbai's Bandra East area as Mihir fled in an auto-rickshaw. His driver Rajrishi Bidawat took another rickshaw to reach Borivali.
3. Before switching off his mobile phone, Mihir made contact with his father, the probe team confirmed. Currently, four teams are reportedly engaged in the manhunt to arrest him at the earliest.
4. The investigation team believes that Mihir reached his girlfriend's house before absconding. The police are questioning her, news reports said.
5. The BMW's windshield reportedly had a Shiv Sena sticker. It was reportedly found scratched. Mumbai-based media reports also claimed that a number plate of the car was also removed after the accident. However, the cops managed to confirm it by going through the CCTV footage of the area.
