Swati Singh, a resident of Prayagraj, has appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for justice for her husband after he was beaten up by a man claiming to be a BJP vice-president.
She has issued a video appeal after her attempts to get help from the police failed. She has also filed a complaint with the chief minister’s portal.
"The man in question, Rohit Mishra, is maligning the BJP’s image," Swathi Singh said. "On the intervening night of June 27 and 28 around 1:30 am, Swathi's husband Rahul Singh stepped out of the couple’s home in the new Mumfordganj locality to buy medicine for the couple’s infant. Mishra was present in the area with some men. When Rahul questioned them about their presence in the locality, Mishra allegedly began abusing Rahul before physically assaulting him. When Rahul threatened to dial the police helpline, Mishra said he would throw him out of his home. An hour later, Mishra returned with two policemen and further roughed up Rahul. Mishra threatened us in front of the police too. The entire incident is captured on CCTV," she said.
Swati also recorded the incident on her mobile phone. When she showed it to the police, they agreed that it appeared that Mishra was at fault. "Yet they have not taken any steps against him", she said.
The men in question, she alleged, often hang around in the area and pass lewd comments and make indecent gestures at the residents of a women’s hostel.
She has been trying to get an FIR lodged. "Police tell me there is a lot of pressure from above. I have full faith in the CM that I will get justice", she said. Her complaint on the CM’s portal reads, "I request you to take the incident seriously and file an FIR against the accused persons…give protection to our lives and property".
