Maharashtra weather update July 9, Tuesday: Mumbai city recorded 101.8 mm of rainfall in nine hours on Monday, nearly seven times more than its suburbs in the same period, while some other parts of Maharashtra also experienced heavy showers. Central Railway services faced significant disruptions due to rain-induced waterlogging on Monday despite installing high-capacity pumps in low-lying areas, inconveniencing thousands of passengers as local trains stopped on tracks for hours. Many out-station trains on their way to Mumbai also remained stranded.

The Colaba weather station, which records weather parameters for the island city, registered 101.8 mm of rainfall from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, said Sushma Nair, scientist, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mumbai.

As Mumbai and adjoining areas continue to get heavy downpour, here are five latest weather updates that the people of Maharashtra need to know:

1. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has declared a holiday to all schools in its limits on July 9, Tuesday. All government and private schools will remain closed as per NMMC Education dept orders.

2. Heavy rain on Monday evening led to the closure of the Andheri subway.



3. Central Maharashtra, including areas of Satara and Pune districts, is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday. The IMD has issued an orange alert for these regions.

4. A yellow alert has been issued for the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions while an orange alert has been issued for the southern Konkan region including Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. 

5. Kundalika River in Maharashtra's Raigad and Kalu in Thane are nearing their danger mark due to the heavy showers. Kundalika River has its warning level at 23 meters and it is flowing at 22.5 meters, while Kalu River has its warning level at 102 meters and is flowing at 101.1 meters, reports said.
