Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena-Shinde leader Rajesh Shah, the main accused in the BMW hit-and-run case confessed to the Mumbai Police that he was behind the wheel when the luxury car caused the death of a 45-year-old woman on Sunday. The 24-year-old, who was caught while on the run after the horrific incident that rocked Maharashtra, will remain in police custody till July 16, Tuesday.
As the investigation has progressed following the arrest of Mihir, here are five developments about the BMW crash case that you need to know this hour:
1. Mihir Shah was under the influence of alcohol when the accident that claimed Kaveri's life occurred, news agency PTI quoted a Mumbai Police official as saying on Thursday.
2. The police investigation found that Mihir Shah opted to drive towards Bandra Worli Sea Link even as the woman remained stuck on the bonnet of the BMW car. She then got entangled in its wheels for a distance of over 1.5 kilometres, the news agency said. At the Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk, other motorists had asked Mihir Shah to stop the car, having noticed the victim's turmoil, but he did not listen and continued driving, an official was quoted as saying.
3. While he was on the run from the cops, Mihir Shah shaved his beard and cut his his hair short to best his chances of concealing his identity. The investigation team is in the process of confirming if anyone helped him in changing his appearance.

4. The accused reportedly told the police that is a qualified four-wheeler driver and holds a driving licence. However, even a copy of the said document is yet to be recovered by the cops as of today.
5. A probe team of the police recreated the accident scene in the early hours of Thursday to get more information about the chain of events.
