Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma on Saturday said Rahul Gandhi is " right" and that he can relate to his statement that derogatory language should not be used against Smriti Irani, the former MP from the UP Lok Sabha seat.

"Rahul Gandhi is right. He stays within his limits. I relate to his statement. Victories and defeats are a part of life," ANI quoted the Amethi MP as saying.

This comes a day after the Leader of Opposition posted on X urging his supporters not to use derogatory languages against Smriti Irani who defeated him in Amethi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“Winning and losing happen in life. I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any leader for that matter. Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength,” Gandhi posted. His remarks came after Irani vacated her official residence at the 28 Tughlak Crescent in Lutyens' Delhi.

Following this, Congress leaders like Sachin Pilot lauded Gandhi's words, saying more people should learn from him. "Humility, respect, empathy and dignity. These are the values we must cherish," he posted.

However, BJP IT Cell head Amit Malaviya called Gandhi's post "disingenuous", alleging that "after unleashing Congress leaders like a pack of wolves on the woman who defeated him in Amethi and smashed his arrogance to smithereens, this is rich". He went on to say, "All this gibberish doesn’t take away from the fact that Smt Smriti Irani forced Balak Buddhi to abandon Amethi."

Sharma, who defeated Irani by a margin of more than 1.67 lakh votes, had said on June 5 that he does not see his victory in terms of a "revenge" of the defeat inflicted on Gandhi by Irani in 2019.

"There is no revenge in politics. It is like sportsmanship, one has to win and the other loses. We don't see things in terms of revenge and all," Sharma had said a day after Lok Sabha election results were announced.

On June 4, when the poll results were announced, Gandhi slammed BJP leaders for calling Sharma as Gandhi family's "peon" and "clerk".

During the press conference, he said that BJP does not talk respectfully, adding, "Kishori Lal Sharma had been working in Amethi for last 40 years. Probably the BJP people did not understand that Kishori Lal Sarma was closely connected with Amethi and therefore his victory was certain."
