Vikravandi bypoll results: DMK's Anniyur Siva heading to victory

He polled 44,780 votes, leading by a margin of over 27,000 votes

The ruling DMK continues to lead in the Vikravandi assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu, where counting of votes in the recently held byelection is underway.

According to the Election Commission website, Anniyur Siva alias A Sivashanmugam of the DMK polled 44,780 votes, leading by a margin of over 27,000 votes over his nearest rival Pattali Makkal Katchi's C. Anbumani.

Anbumani polled 17,359 votes so far.

Tamil nationalist party Nam Tamilar Katchi candidate K. Abinaya was in third place with 3,556 votes.

Nota received 311 votes so far in the Vikravandi bypolls.

The main opposition in the state, AIADMK, and DMDK boycotted the bypoll which was held on July 10.

The by-election was necessitated after the demise of DMK legislator N Pugazhenthi in April.
