Congress leader Karti Chidambaram took a swipe at the Tamil Nadu government and the state police over the killing of an accused in a BSP leader’s murder in police custody.
K. Thiruvengadam, the key accused in the murder of BSP Tamil Nadu chief K. Armstrong, was shot dead in Chennai on Sunday after he allegedly attempted to assault police personnel and flee from custody.
In a post on X tagging the state police chief and the chief minister’s office, Karti termed the incident as “contract killing in uniform”.
“Extra Judicial Encounter Killing is not good policing. This is contract killing in uniform,” he said.
The Congress is an ally of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu.
The shooting incident took place early morning on Sunday when Thiruvengadam was taken by sleuths to a location in north Chennai as part of the investigation to unearth weapons concealed in a spot.
He allegedly assaulted the cops and tried to escape but was shot at by a police officer.
Thiruvengadam is one of the 11 accused arrested in the Armstrong murder case and is a history-sheeter. A couple of days ago, a court in Chennai had granted police five-day custody of the accused persons.
