According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rain is likely at some places in Kota and Udaipur divisions of Rajasthan over the next few days under the influence of a low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal and the south Odisha coast on Monday.

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal will bring more showers to the state before another is likely to follow on July 19, Friday, the IMD said.

As a result of this system, the monsoon is likely to remain active at many places in eastern Rajasthan over the next four-five days and heavy rains are likely at some places in Kota and Udaipur divisions, the weather office was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Rain activity is also likely to continue in some parts of the Jodhpur division in the coming days, the IMD added. At the same time, there is a possibility of an increase in rain activity on July 17 and 18 and very heavy rain at some places in Kota, Udaipur and Ajmer divisions.

In western Rajasthan, there is a possibility of an increase in rain activity at many places in Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions from July 17 to 19 and heavy rain at some places on July 18, IMD said.

Heavy rain lashes Kerala

Incessant rains accompanied by gusty winds continued to batter several parts of Kerala, prompting authorities to declare a holiday for educational institutions in seven districts on Monday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted extremely heavy rainfall in northern Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod districts and placed these northern districts under red alert. According to its latest update, the weatherman issued an orange alert in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Idukki, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. In Kottayam district, fallen trees damaged houses and vehicles following heavy rains and gusty winds since early morning.
