The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s plea challenging the Central Bureau of Investigation’s FIR against him in a disproportionate assets case.

Hearing the Congress leader’s plea, a bench of Justices Bela M. Trivedi and S.C. Sharma dismissed the matter saying it was not inclined to interfere with the Karnataka High Court’s order. Justice Trivedi observed Rs 41 lakh was recovered from Shivakumar’s premises.

The central agency has accused the Karnataka deputy chief minister of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known income sources between 2013 and 2018. CBI filed a FIR against the Congress leader in September 2020 and he challenged the FIR in Karnataka High Court in 2021.

The Karnataka High Court rejected Shivakumar’s plea and directed CBI to conclude the investigation within three months.

The income tax department conducted raids at premises related to Shivakumar in 2017 and seized over Rs 8 crore, out of which Rs 41 lakh were allegedly recovered from the Congress leader's premises. The Enforcement Directorate registered a case in connection with the IT case and arrested him in September 2019.
