Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, on Wednesday, dubbed the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the CBI in the alleged liquor policy scam an “afterthought insurance arrest” and a "hook or crook arrest."

He sought to know if Kejriwal could be kept under arrest till the time the Delhi CM told them what they wanted to hear. "The moment I (Kejriwal) say 'I am innocent and didn't do anything', it becomes an evasive reply. Everything said by me is evasive reply. What I am saying is the truth, not what the interrogator wants to hear. And even this, the Court will decide what is the truth."

Singhvi said the Delhi CM's health condition is a cause of concern. "Blood sugar has gone to 50 while sleeping. This is a cause of concern. Sugar levels dropping while the person is sleeping is dangerous. The person might not wake up. Please take a holistic view, a common sensical view. Three orders are already in my favour."

Singhvi claimed that the investigating agency had neither material nor grounds for the arrest.

Singhvi told a single-judge bench, of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna that the arrest was in violation of the most overarching fundamental right. "CBI has not thought me to interrogate till June. The scam allegedly took place in August 2022 and you are in June. Just 2 months short of August, you suddenly feel the need to arrest him?”
