The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday ruled out an alliance with the Congress for the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana and said the party would contest the polls on its own. The AAP had contested one Lok Sabha seat from the state in alliance with the grand old party.

"The Aam Aadmi Party has decided that it will contest the Haryana assembly elections with full force. We have governments in Delhi and Punjab; half of Haryana touches Delhi and half of Haryana touches Punjab. The people of Haryana appealed to us; that's why we came here,” senior AAP leader and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said at a press conference in Chandigarh.

“Haryana gave a chance to the BJP, Congress and all parties, but everyone looted. Now bring Kejriwal," he added.

Mann further said the AAP will contest in all the 90 assembly seats in Haryana and defeat the “double-engine” government in the state, in an apparent swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party government.

AAP MPs Sanjay Singh and Sandeep Pathak were present at the press meet. Singh targeted the Nayab Singh Saini government over the unemployment rate in the state and also raked up the issues of agniveer and farmers’ trouble.

“Kejriwal will change the condition of Haryana. Today people have hope from the Aam Aadmi Party," he said.

Haryana Assembly elections are expected by October as the tenure of the current house is set to end on November 3. Seven other states will also go to the polls later this year.
