The Central Bureau of Investigation is questioning an MBBS student from Ranchi for the second day in connection with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) paper leak case. The central agency had recently arrested four medical students from AIIMS-Patna in connection with the probe.

The CBI began questioning the first-year MBBS student of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi in connection with the paper leak case on Thursday. College authorities said the central agency contacted them on Wednesday in connection with interrogating the student.

The student, who stays at the girls' hostel of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, an autonomous institute under the Jharkhand government, was approached by the CBI earlier this week for questioning, PTI reported. "The CBI team is questioning a first-year student. The team contacted the hospital management on Wednesday saying they wanted to question her in connection with the NEET paper leak. The management extended full cooperation to the team. On Thursday too, they grilled her and said she will be questioned further," RIMS PRO Rajiv Ranjan told PTI.

The official said the parents of the student had contacted the management and were briefed about the situation.

CBI has registered six FIRs so far in connection with the probe. On Thursday, the central agency arrested three third-year MBBS students Chandan Singh, Rahul Anant and Kumar Shanu and a second-year student, Karan Jain, from AIIMS-Patna. The students were arrested following extensive questioning from their hostel rooms and those rooms have been sealed, the publication reported.

NEET-UG, conducted by the National Testing Agency, is a national-level examination for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses in government and private institutions.

This year, the exam was conducted on May 5 at 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 abroad. More than 23 lakh candidates had appeared for the test. However, several aspirants alleged irregularities in the examination and have approached the Supreme Court demanding retest.
