Microsoft outage: Airports resume normal operations, backlogs likely to be cleared by noon, says aviation ministry

The civil aviation ministry said disruptions caused by the Microsoft outage have been cleared and airports are functioning normally across the country on Saturday. The ministry said backlogs of flights are expected to be cleared by noon and they are constantly monitoring the situation.

In a release, the ministry said, “Since 3am, airline systems across airports have started working normally. Flight operations are going smoothly now.” The ministry said backlogs are being cleared. “There is a backlog because of disruptions yesterday, and it is getting cleared gradually. By noon today, we expect all issues to be resolved,” it said.

The ministry added they are constantly monitoring the operations. “We are constantly monitoring the operations at our airports and also with the airlines ensuring travel readjustments and refunds are taken care of,” it said.

Flight operations got affected on Friday following a software glitch. A major Microsoft technical outage disrupted banking, media operations and global flight services across the world. It led to the cancellation of several flights in the Central U.S. region and banks. In India, Akasa Air, IndiGo and SpiceJet reported issues with booking and check-in following which several airlines, grounded planes and disrupted flight operations at Delhi and Mumbai airports.
