Terrorists on Monday attacked the house of a village defence guard(VDG) in Rajouri at Gunda.

Soon after the attack, the Army camping in the area rushed to the spot and challenged the terrorists resulting in an exchange of fire. “Terrorists attacked the house of a VDC at Gunda, Rajouri at 0310h. A nearby Army column reacted and a firefight ensued. Operations are continuing,” Army’s White Knight Corps said in a post on X.

Reports suggest that an army trooper was injured in a brief exchange of fire between terrorists, while three to four terrorists are believed to be held up in the area. According to Defence PRO in Jammu, “A major terror attack in the remote village of Rajouri was thwarted. The operation is in progress.”

It is unclear whether the attack was carried out by a fresh group or those who infiltrated earlier. The attack comes a day after the Director General of BSF carried out a visit to the frontier locations. Security is already on a high alert in Jammu following a series of attacks in Katua, Doda and Udhampur.

On Saturday, the Army chief held a security meeting with the top army, police and intelligence officers in Jammu and ordered them to deal with terrorists with an iron fist. The attacks in Jammu’s Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur have left 48 soldiers dead in the last 32 months, heightening concerns about Jammu becoming the new hub of terrorism.
