The Centre has demanded to know if the parents of controversial IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, Manorama and Dilip Khedkar, are divorced.

According to media reports, the Centre asked the Pune Police to confirm the marital status of Puja Khedkar's parents amid allegations that she fraudulently availed of the OBC non-creamy layer benefit in the UPSC exam by claiming that they were separated, according to an official.

A senior official of the Pune police confirmed to news agency PTI that the Union government has asked them to apprise it of the marital status of her parents.

"We have been asked to find out and inform to the central government about whether Puja Khedkar's parents were divorced. In a nutshell, it has asked us to verify the actual status of their marriage/divorce," the official has been quoted as saying.

Khedkar is accused of misusing power and privileges by demanding perks and facilities she was not eligible for during her training in Pune district collectorate in Maharashtra recently. She was also accused of bullying people and of placing a red-blue beacon atop a private Audi car used by her that also had 'Maharashtra Government' written on it during her stint.

Meanwhile, Khedkar, who was supposed to report for duty in Mussoorie's Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) by Tuesday, failed to meet the deadline.

She has been reportedly unreachable after the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) registered a police case against her.
