A delegation of the farmer leaders met Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday and appraised him of the issues being faced by them.

Twelve farmer leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka were part of the delegation.

Talking to reporters after the meeting at the Parliament House, Gandhi told reporters that the opposition INDIA bloc will put pressure on the government to ensure that the farmers get a legal guarantee for MSP.

"We will have a discussion with INDIA bloc leaders and will put pressure on the government to ensure that the farmers get a legal guarantee for MSP," he said.

Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal, former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Congress leaders Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Dharamvir Gandhi, Amar Singh, Deepender Singh Hooda and Jai Prakash were also present in the meeting.

Warring said Gandhi will raise the issues being faced by the farmers, in parliament. He told NDTV that the party will bring a private member’s bill in the house if that is required.

Asked about the reports that the farmers are planning a protest march in Delhi, Warring said: "They have all rights to come to Delhi and protest (and) if a private member's bill is required then we will bring that too."

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Wednesday observed that there is a trust deficit between farmers and the government and said there is a need for a "neutral umpire" who can inspire confidence between the two sides.

"You have to take some steps to reach out to farmers. Why would they otherwise want to come to Delhi? You are sending Ministers from here and despite their best intentions there is trust deficit," the court said.

The top court was hearing a petition filed by Haryana government challenging the high court order asking it to remove within a week the barricades at the Shambhu border.

Farmers have been camping at the border near Ambala  since February 13.
