Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kargil on Friday to commemorate 25 years of India’s victory in the Kargil war. The prime minister will visit the Kargil War Memorial and pay tributes to martyrs.

“On the occasion of the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Kargil War Memorial at around 9.20am and pay homage to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a release.

The PMO said Modi will also be virtually carrying out the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel Project on Friday. “Shinkun La Tunnel Project consists of a 4.1 km long Twin-Tube tunnel which will be constructed at an altitude of around 15,800 feet on the Nimu – Padum – Darcha Road to provide all weather connectivity to Leh. Once completed, it will be the highest tunnel in the world. Shinkun La tunnel will not only ensure swift and efficient movement of our armed forces and equipment but also foster economic and social development in Ladakh,” it said.

Recently, Ladakh Lt. Governor Brig (Retd) B.D. Mishra reviewed arrangements for Modi’s visit.

The prime minister would participate in the wreath-laying ceremony followed by a visit to the 'Shaheed Marg' (Wall of Fame), said General Officer Commanding of 8 Mountain Division, Major General Sachin Malik. He added Modi would sign the visitor's book and inspect the museum of Kargil War artefacts. The prime minister will sit for the briefing on the Kargil War followed by a group photograph. He would also interact with 'Veer Naris' (War Widows) and visit the Veer Bhoomi.
