Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh who is in the national capital to attend a NITI Aayog meeting is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will be the first meeting between the two leaders in more than 14 months since the ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, 2023.

Talking to reporters in Imphal earlier in the day, Singh said he is optimistic about a positive outcome of his Delhi trip.

"My visit to Delhi is for the NITI Aayog meeting. Following this, there will be a chief ministers' conclave where we will discuss various issues. I will address the current situation in the state and seek immediate solutions to the ongoing crisis. I am optimistic that positive outcomes will result," he said.

Responding to media queries, Singh confirmed that there would be a one-to-one meeting between him and the prime minister.

At least 200 people lost their lives and more than 60,000 people were displaced in the violence that broke out between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. Most of those displaced are still living in relief camps.

The opposition has been attacking the prime minister for not visiting the northeast state since the violence broke out and the state government for failing to maintain the law and order situation.

Talking to reporters, Singh said he will personally send invitations to the 10 Kuki-Zo legislators to attend the upcoming Assembly session.

"I will personally extend the invitations, as well as through the Assembly. They (Kuki-Zo MLAs) should join us, and we are ready to cooperate," he siad.

The 10 Kuki MLAs, including two ministers, did not attend the last two sessions due to the ongoing ethnic violence in the state.

The sixth session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly will be held from July 31 to August 6.
