Heavy rains lashed Maharashtra, including Mumbai, on Thursday with a yellow alert in place for the city. Besides Mumbai, showers also inundated Thane, Palghar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Raigad and Ratnagiri regions.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai will experience "generally cloudy sky with moderate rain" till Sunday. "Wet spells have been predicted for the city till July 30. Over the next 5 days the temperature will hover in the range of 23 to 29 degrees Celsius," the alert read.
While severe waterlogging was experienced in the Chembur area, showers caused traffic chaos at Vile Parle too. Following the incessant showers, the Andheri subway was closed for vehicular movement.
Extremely heavy rainfall will lash Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra too. "The districts of Konkan are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places. The districts of Madhya Maharashtra are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in the Ghat region," the IMD alert read.

Dam shutters opened
The heavy rains have filled the Tansa Dam, one of the two dams that supply water to Mumbai, following which two of its gates were opened on Wednesday evening. People in and around Tansa Dam have been advised to be vigilant. The maximum capacity of Tansa Dam is 14,508 crore litres.
Besides Tansa, the gates of Khadakwasla Dam were also opened after continuous rains in the catchment area filled the dam on Thursday. As per information from the District Information Office, the Pune administration increased the speed and released the water into the Mutha River on Thursday at 6 a.m. at a rate of 40,000 cusecs.
Trains rescheduled
The Central Railway announced it was rescheduling 'CSMT-Madgaon Tejas Express with Train Number 22119 following heavy showers. It was earlier scheduled to depart at 5:50 pm today but will now leave for its journey at 7:30 pm.
The Konkan Railway has also short-terminated trains at Thane and Dadar stations due to extension work of platforms 10,11,12 and 13 at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSMT).
Three dead near Mutha River
The Mutha River is currently flowing above the danger mark in Pune. The release of water from the Khadakwasla Dam flooded the Mutha riverbed road in the Deccan area, leading to the closure of the Bhide Bridge.
This also claimed the lives of three people, who were electrocuted to death at around 3 am on Thursday near Z bridge on the Mutha river. The incident occurred when they were shifting their food stall due to the rise in water level in the Mutha river, according to Swapnali Joshi, Sr PI, Deccan Police Station, Pune Police.
