Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly met face-to-face during the former’s recent visit to the national capital and discussed the situation in the state. This is the first meeting between the leaders ever since ethnic violence broke out in the northeastern state.

NDTV reported the leaders had a brief closed door session on the sidelines of a meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party’s chief ministers. Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were also present during the meeting and they discussed about a possible solution for the ongoing crisis, the publication reported.

The meeting comes amidst mounting pressure from the opposition on the Centre to find a solution to the ongoing crisis in the state. The opposition has been demanding that the prime minister should visit Manipur. During the recently held Lok Sabha elections, the Congress had vowed to dissolve the Manipur government if it comes to power.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi also visited Manipur after the polls and said he would raise the issue in parliament. On Sunday, the Congress took a dig at PM Modi and asked has the Manipur CM invited Modi to visit the state as the former is planning to visit Ukraine amid the Ukraine-Russia war.
