Delhi Minister Atishi announced on Wednesday that the government will pass a law to bring all coaching centres in the capital under regulatory ambit, saying it will not wait for the Centre to take action.

The minister said the government will form a committee consisting of officials and students to set up regulations on fees, teacher qualification and infrastructure.

This comes days after three IAS aspirants were drowned while studying in the basement library of Rau's IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar. They were identified as Navin Delvin, 28, from Kerala, Tania Soni, 25, from Telangana, and Shreya Yadav, 25, from Uttar Pradesh.

Atishi said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has sealed basements of 30 coaching centres in Rajinder Nagar, Mukharjee Nagar, Laxmi Nagar and Preet Vihar. These include IAS Gurukul, Drishti IAS, Sriram IAS, Sanskriti Academy and Vajiram. Notices were issued to 200 other coaching centres.

The minister also warned that stringent action will be taken against officers who are found guilty. An assistant engineer responsible for ensuring proper drainage was suspended while a junior engineer who was tasked with maintening drains as well as flagging encroachment was terminated by the MCD.
