Sheikh Hasina, who resigned as Bangladesh's prime minister following massive anti-government protests, is known to be on her way to London.
Soon after her resignation on Monday, there were media reports that said she landed in Agartala Tripura. Although these reports are unconfirmed, it would not be the first time that Sheikh Hasina found asylum in India during her time of crisis.
Former foreign secretary and former ambassador to Bangladesh, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, when asked if India would offer asylum to Sheikh Hasina said it is difficult for him to say.

He noted that India has never denied safe haven or asylum to those who have been in our neighbourhood.
"Keep in mind that Sheikh Hasina was here right from 1975 till about 1979 or so when she went back to her country after the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rehman - her father. India has never denied safe haven or asylum to those who have been in our neighbourhood. But my own sense is that there are many other places that the PM may go...We cannot speculate at this point," he said, according to news agency ANI.
After her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated in 1975 after a military coup, Sheikh Hasina spent six years in India in exile. She stayed at Pandara Road neighborhood in Delhi under an assumed identity until she returned to Bangladesh in 1981.
