Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole on Tuesday demanded that Maharashtra government waive farmers loans in total as has been done by the Congress government in Telangana.

Patole said that the flood situation in the state is a serious issue and farmers are loosing their crops and houses.

“The government is paying no attention to the flood situation. No assessment is being done by the government to know the real damage to crops and farmers’ houses. We demand that Maharashtra government do what the Congress government has done in Telangana - complete waiver of farmers loans and monetary help to farmers to rebuild their houses," he said.

Patole said that being a farmer himself, he knew the ground situation. "Recovery of loans from farmers should be stopped immediately. Many farmers have not yet received loan and they must get loans immediately."

When asked whether the Congress planned to take disciplinary action against its MLAs who had cross voted in the legislative council elections, Patole said that action will certainly be taken, however, there were some technical issues and the media will come to know what action is being taken in the days to come.

Patole further alleged that the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh has discontinued the Ladli Behana scheme on the basis of which the saffron party had won power in the state.

"They have discontinued it after coming to power. These are all original Congress schemes which were implemented as Mahalakshmi scheme in Congress ruled states. Maharashtra government has announced Rs 1,500 per month for women. We will give more money to women and give the scheme a permanent nature," said Patole.
