A routine baggage check by the Railway police personnel at Dadar railway station foiled plans of two differently-abled men who were scheming to discreetly dispose off a trolley stuffed with a dead body. The hearing-and-speech-impaired men allegedly hammered the 30-year-old to death.

Personnel from the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police were conducting routine baggage checks at Dadar railway station on Monday when they felt suspicious about a man standing holding to a huge trolley baggage on platform 11 at the station.

Police took the man, Jay Pravin Chawda, into custody and checked his bag only to find a dead body stuffed in it. “The deceased was identified as Arshad Ali Sadique Ali Shaikh (30), a resident of Kalina in Santacruz. He was bludgeoned to death with a hammer,” police said.

Chawda's accomplice Shivjeet Surendra Singh managed to escape from the place and he was later nabbed by Mumbai police from Ulhasnagar in Thane. The accused were hearing and speech impaired and they were facing some difficulties with the probe, police said.

According to police, the accused and the victim Ali Shaikh were friends and they murdered him following a quarrel over a woman.

Pydhonie police have taken over the probe from Dadar railway police as the murder occurred at the former’s police limits. The accused will be produced in court on Tuesday and custody will be sought, police said.
