The Centre on Friday formed a committee to monitor the situation on India-Bangladesh border and to ensure the safety of Indian nationals amidst the crisis in the neighbouring country. The six-member committee will be headed by ADG, Border Security Force (BSF), Eastern Command.
In a statement, the union home ministry said, “The Government of India has constituted a Committee to monitor the current situation on the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB). The committee will maintain communication channels with their counterpart authorities in Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Indian citizens and people belonging to minority communities in Bangladesh.”
According to the ministry, the committee led by ADG, Border Security Force (BSF), Eastern Command will have IG, BSF Frontier HQ South Bengal; IG, BSF Frontier HQ Tripura; member (Planning & Development), Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) and secretary, LPAI as its members.
Union Minister Amit Shah said the committee was formed considering the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals, Hindus, and other minority communities living there.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged the interim government in Bangladesh to ensure an early return to normalcy. Modi urged the Nobel laureate led by Professor Muhammad Yunus to ensure the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities.
Several Hindu temples were allegedly attacked amidst the protest and the students’ movement later formed committees to protect the establishment of minorities.
