The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested an ISIS operative who escaped from police custody in 2023. Rizwan Ali is part of the Pune module of the terrorist organisation and a native of Daryaganj in Delhi.
He was arrested by a team of Special Cell on a secret tip off received from the Delhi-Faridabad border. An illegal firearm was recovered from his possession, they said.
Ali, who had Rs 3 lakh bounty on his head, had been featured by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on his most wanted list for his involvement in terror activities.
The police are now probing why Ali was seen in Delhi ahead of the Independence Day celebrations. There are suspicions that Ali was on a mission to spy a Delhi-NCR based person who was being targetted. The police said the terror suspect was being interrogated.
