The civic volunteer arrested for the rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata had porn videos on his phone and he allegedly posed as “police” in the neighbourhood. The accused Sanjay Roy was sent to 14 days of police custody on Saturday.
Police probing the case said the accused has confessed to the crime, Hindustan Times reported. The accused, who was a civic volunteer, reportedly had porn videos on the phone and had easy access to all areas of the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Kolkata police arrested Roy on Saturday after reviewing CCTV footage from the hospital. Police also reportedly found a torn part of his bluetooth earphone which helped them to zero in on Roy. Kolkata police have charged him under sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of the BNS.
The victim, 31, was found dead on Friday morning around 7.30am at the third floor seminar hall of the hospital with multiple injuries. A judicial inquest has found injuries in the private parts while there was bleeding from both her eyes and mouth. Her collarbone was broken and injuries were found in her neck, belly and limbs.
Human hair and blood stains were recovered by forensic experts from the mattress on which she was found dead. Her broken spectacles were also found.
Roy, a civic volunteer, reportedly posed as “police” in his neighbourhood and allegedly used to make money by making false promises of getting government jobs. A senior police officer told Telegraph India that Roy allegedly was interested in finding beds for those seeking admission at the hospital against money.
