Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s order upholding his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the liquor policy case.
The Delhi High Court recently dismissed the Aam Aadmi Party leader’s plea challenging his arrest by the CBI in a prevention of corruption case registered in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam. Delhi High Court Justice Neena Bansal Krishna dismissed the plea observing the Aam Aadmi Party leader’s arrest by the central agency was not without any justifiable reason or illegal, Live Law reported. The Court also dismissed his bail plea and directed him to approach the trial court.
The CBI arrested Kejriwal from Tihar prison on June 26 in a prevention of corruption case registered in connection with the alleged scam in now scrapped Delhi liquor policy. According to CBI, Kejriwal is the ‘Sutradhar’ of the scam. The CBI case stemmed from a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged scam. According to the central agencies, irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy and undue favours extended to licence holders.
Kejriwal, who was arrested by the ED on March 21, was granted interim bail recently by the apex court. However, Kejriwal continues to languish in Tihar jail owing to the CBI’s case.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Monday will hear Kejriwal’s plea challenging the summons sent to him in a criminal defamation case. On March 11, the top court asked Kejriwal whether he wanted to give an apology to the complainant in the matter. Kejriwal had on February 26 told the apex court that he made a mistake by retweeting the allegedly defamatory video related to the BJP IT Cell, PTI reported.
