The highest number of farmer suicides in the country is happening in Maharashtra, but the Mahabrashtrayuti government is not paying attention to the issues of farmers, said Congress state in-charge Ramesh Chennithala.

He said there is no MSP (Minimum Support Price) for agricultural produce.

During Dr Manmohan Singh's government, Rs 72,000 crores of farmers' loans were waived, but the BJP government at the centre and in the state is not providing loan waivers to farmers, he said, adding that this government does not have any program to control inflation and unemployment.

“The people of Maharashtra have taught a lesson to the BJP alliance in the Lok Sabha, and now in the upcoming Assembly elections, the Mahavikas Aghadi will win with a two-thirds majority and form the government," he further said.

Chennithala is on a Vidarbha tour along with senior leaders of the state and is reviewing the preparation for the Assembly elections.

While interacting with the media, Chennithala further said that the central government introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill, but it was not made in the interest of the minority community.

“It is against the minorities. The government brought it without discussing it with anyone, without considering the sentiments of minorities, and despite opposition from the Muslim community. Due to opposition in the Lok Sabha, the bill had to be sent to the JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee). The central government is working against public sentiments and in the interest of certain individuals,” he said.

Legislative Assembly Party Leader Balasaheb Thorat said that the response received by MVA in the Lok Sabha elections has been remarkable. The review meetings in Marathwada have also received a good response, he said.

“It is evident that there is immense public anger against both the central and state governments. Those who were under investigation have now become part of the government, and the government is running through corrupt means. The law and order situation in the state is serious, and the use of drugs among the youth is increasing,” he said.

Leader of the Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar said that the Mahayuti government is a gang of looters.

“Corruption has reached its peak. Despite the treasury being empty, tenders worth Rs 5 lakh crore have been issued, and the trio has taken a 30 per cent commission,” he said.

Wadettiwar alleged that a Rs 900 crore tender was issued for the security of the Samruddhi Highway, but it was cancelled and later awarded for Rs 1,800 crore to another party. Properties worth Rs 10 lakh crore in Mumbai have been handed over to Adani. No work has been done other than taking commissions. The sins of this government have now reached their limit, said Wadettiwar.
